Well today is another windy day here in Spiritwood, with the winds gusting to 40 kms it looks like a good day to stay inside and quilt. Today I am going to show you a couple of tools for those of you that have issues sewing flying geese units and Half Square Triangles. Debbie Tucker was the inventor of the "Wing Clipper" and I have to say, I love this ruler. My first time using it I made several flying geese with it and each one was perfect. The instructions that come with the ruler are very easy to follow, even for a beginner. The instructions allow for a wee bit of extra and then you use the ruler to trim to your perfect size. It allows you to make flying geese units up to 5 x 10 inches.

The next tool is "Triangulations" Software by Brenda Henning of Bear Paw Productions. She has developed this software that allows you to print foundation papers for Quarter Square Triangles in sizes 3/4" to 7 1/2" in 1/8" increments, Half Squares in sizes 1/2" to 7 1/2" in 1/16th" increments and Tamed Geese in sizes 1/2" x 1" to 3 3/4" x 7 1/2" in 1/4" increments.

This software runs on any PC or Mac computer that has Adobe Reader. The foundation papers print singly or in multiples on standard 8 1/2" x 11" computer paper. You select what you want to print, the finished size desired, how many you wish to print. That is it! You are back to your sewing table in minutes.

Yesterday was a sewing day for the members of X-Country Quilters at Pipers Lake Quilt Shop. Several ladies showed up and all were busy working on their own individual projects. Some were made only from using scraps up but turned out beautifully. The most amazing items can be made from saving our scraps.

One member, who shall remain nameless, was working on a rather large quilt top yesterday and had to reach to the top of the design wall to hang her squares. Being a little on the short side, the necessity for a ladder became obvious and then required another set of hands as one cannot reach across the entire design wall on such a huge quilt!! What resulted was a wonderful photo of her and another member (whom shall also remain nameless) both standing on chair and ladder working together as a team to get her quilt on the design wall.

It is the friendships that have developed and the assistance and advice of others that make me love being a part of our quilt club. If you are not in a club or a guild, check into joining one in your community. The advice and friendships made are priceless!
