Today I am going to introduce you to the "Strip Tube Ruler" designed by Cozy Quilt Designs. This ruler is used with 2 1/2 inch strips that are sewed into tubes and cut.

When cutting with this ruler you line up the bottom line on the ruler according to the size required by your pattern and cut your half-square triangles. To cut the next triangle from your fabric tube you take the ruler and rotate it so that the straight end of the ruler is now at the top of the fabric tube and cut downwards to form your next piece. By alternating the direction of cutting from the fabric tube with your ruler the pattern on your half-square triangles will be different than the ones cut from the bottom of the fabric tube.

By changing the colors of fabrics you can change the appearance of the pattern greatly just by changing colors of strips and background/focal fabrics. Here is an example. This is the pattern "Lotus Blosson" by Cozy Quilt Designs. By simply changing the colors suggested in the pattern you can see by the photo below how the appearance changes.
